Website maintenance & support

The boring, unglamorous work that decides whether your site is an asset or a liability eighteen months after launch.

What maintenance covers

  • Updates — WordPress core, themes, plugins, PHP version and dependencies, applied carefully rather than automatically
  • Backups — scheduled, stored off the server, and periodically tested by actually restoring one
  • Security — hardening, monitoring, and cleanup if something has already got in
  • Bug fixing — broken forms, checkout failures, layout breakage, plugin conflicts, white screens
  • Performance monitoring — watching page speed and Core Web Vitals so decline gets caught early
  • Uptime — knowing the site is down before your customers tell you
  • Hosting, DNS and SSL — certificate renewals, DNS changes, migrations, email routing
  • Small content and feature changes — the ten-minute jobs that otherwise wait months

Why "we'll update it ourselves" usually fails

Not through laziness. Through priority. Updating plugins is never the most urgent thing on any given Tuesday, so it slides — until one of three things happens:

  • An update breaks the site, and now it needs fixing under pressure rather than on a schedule
  • A vulnerability gets exploited, because outdated plugins are the most common way small sites get compromised
  • An update becomes impossible — skip enough versions and the safe upgrade path disappears entirely

The third is the expensive one. A site two years behind on updates often costs more to bring current than it did to build.

How I work

  1. Audit first. What is installed, what versions, what is exposed, what is slow. You get the findings whether or not you hire me.
  2. Fix the urgent things. Security exposure and anything actively broken.
  3. Set up the safety net. Backups, monitoring, a staging copy for testing updates before they touch production.
  4. Settle into a rhythm. Scheduled update and check cycles, with a written summary of what changed.

Inherited a site from another developer?

That is most of this work. No judgement about the state it is in — I will document what is there, tell you plainly what is worth keeping, and give you a realistic order of operations. See also technical SEO & performance if the site is slow or not being found.

Nobody currently looking after your site?

Tell me what you are running and I will tell you what it needs — and what it does not.
